Ch. 6 & 11 Reading Responses

Chapter 6 Response
Having digital technologies in the classroom would be very beneficial.  I would prefer to have more digital technologies rather than less because whatever my academic or administrative needs are, technology will usually find the hardware or software to get the job done (145).  Being able to have technologies such as scanners, digital cameras, electronic whiteboards and projectors are very useful when it comes to teaching the class.  Having the electronic whiteboards gives the students a chance to see what is on your computer screen and also allows them to come up to the board and try things themselves. Having projectors in the classroom is another useful technology that allows the students to see what your viewing too.  Digital cameras would be great to take on field trips and have for various activities during school.  Although technology can be overwhelming, I feel that the students would be more involved if technology is used, therefore I'd rather have more than less.

Chapter 11 Response
Audio Technology
Traditional--Books.  Although the traditional ways of technology such as books, TV monitors, film projectors, tape recorders, and overhead projectors are very simple and easy to use, I feel that the emerging technologies are better for the classroom.  I feel like we will always need books to look at for projects and such but they are becoming such an inconvienence for research projects.
Emerging -- Multimedia CD-ROMS, e-books, Internet searches.  These emerging technologies have become such less of an inconvienence for people who are researching topics.  Having internet searches alone has cut a lot of time for researching and planning.
Visual Technology
Traditional--VHS
before dvds were invented, vhs tapes were very functional in the classroom. However now, vhs tapes are an inconvenience because you are not able to fast forward and rewind like you are now. Vhs is also easy to scratch and repair. Emerging--DVD.  Having DVD's has improved the way people watch movies.  They have a lot more options as far as rewinding and fast forwarding goes and they also have the option of skipping certain scenes from a movie.  They are much faster than VHS tapes as well. Having these in the classroom is very beneficial because they cut down your technology time and allow for more teaching time.
